Dear Joe Carlson Elementary Families,
Staying on top of your child's attendance just got a lot easier.
Starting August 17, Joe Carlson Elementary will be using a new text-based system to keep you informed when your child is absent — and to make it simple for you to respond, ask questions, and share notes, all without a phone call.
Here's what's new:
You'll receive a text when your child is absent. A message will come from (520) 438 1802 — save this number in your contacts so you never miss it.
You can text back directly. Reply to confirm an absence, share the reason, or ask a question. It's that simple.
You can send photos of notes by text. Need to submit a parent note or a doctor's note? Just take a photo and text it to the same number — no need to drop anything off at the office.
You can proactively text us. Know that your child will be absent? Send us a text to (520) 438 1802, and we’ll update the record accordingly.
The texts are powered by our AI attendance assistant. Every response goes directly to our attendance team, and your child's record is updated accordingly.
If you have questions or need help, please reach out to us at (520) 805-4400. We're grateful for your partnership and committed to making every school day count.
Sincerely,
Joe Carlson Elementary School

As a reminder, we will have our Joe Carlson 21st Century Summer School Showcase at 12 p.m. and will take place in our cafeteria. Please use the cafeteria entrance if you plan to attend our showcase and see the wonderful happenings of our program. In addition, we will not be dismissing students through the playground, but will be dismissed today through the cafeteria exit located on the south side of the school. Please don’t hesitate to contact our office if you have any questions.
Due to migrating bees currently nesting in a tree near our playground. Out of an abundance of caution for everyone's safety, our students attending 21st Century Summer School at Joe Carlson will not be using the usual playground pickup area today.
Instead, please proceed to the cafeteria at 12 p.m. for pickup, similar to our standard rainy day pickup route. Staff will be on hand to direct traffic and ensure a safe, smooth dismissal.
Thank you for your quick flexibility and cooperation!

Summer school begins tomorrow, Tuesday May 26. We will be following the regular school day student drop-off and pick-up locations. Student drop-off will take place by the basketball court, and pick-up will be located by the alley.

As we wrap up another wonderful year of learning, growth, achievements, and memories, we would like to thank our students, staff, families, and community for an amazing school year!
We hope everyone has a fun, safe, and relaxing summer break! Enjoy your time with family and friends, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back next school year!
🌴☀️ Have a Great Summer! ☀️🌴

Please note that the revised calendar includes a reduction in Wednesday early release days for the 2026-2027 school year. We encourage all families and staff to review the updated calendar carefully for important dates, holidays, breaks, and schedule changes.
Thank you for your continued support of Douglas USD #27.
