Joe Carlson’s Uniform Dress Code

Student dress plays an essential role in our school’s atmosphere.  At Joe Carlson, we believe that dressing appropriately and with pride establishes a positive learning environment and plays a significant role in a student’s success in school.  For this reason, students, parents, staff, and community adopted the following uniform dress code:

  • Shirts are Polo style only and may be short or long-sleeved in any of these four colors: white, maroon, royal blue, and navy blue.  Shirts must be free of writing or designs other than our school logo.
  • Pants, shorts, or skirts colors are blue denim, navy blue, or khaki only.  Leggings and knit pants are not acceptable.
  • Students may wear sweatshirts, hoodies, sweaters, coats, etc., outside but should remove them when they are in class.
  • Plain T-shirts or other collared shirts are not acceptable.  Students must wear long-tailed shirts tucked in at all times.  Belts, tights, and extra shirts and leggings are worn underneath for comfort and warmth are acceptable in our school colors only.  Jackets and shoes are non-uniform.

It is our goal to establish a positive learning environment.  We appreciate parents’ help in monitoring student dress.   We will call parents to bring appropriate clothing if the student violates the dress code.  Repeat offenders will be subject to administrative action as per the district’s discipline matrix.  Please refer to Dress Code (DUSD Policy JICA) in this handbook for a complete description of our district guidelines.  Call the school office if you have any questions.
